MIAMI (Gray News) - A lawmaker in Florida says he is considering legislation that would repeal homeowners’ associations across the state.

Juan C. Porras , a Florida Republican representative for Miami-Dade County, says it may be time to do away with HOAs amid rising fees and other concerns.

WTSP reports that Porras shared a petition that is calling for enforcement and transparency over Florida HOAs, which says current laws in place do little to protect homeowners from management and board members who don’t abide by them.

“In the free state of Florida, we should not have authoritarian boards dictate your day-to-day life with no accountability,” Porras posted last week on social media.
