WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — With Labor Day weekend still days away, traffic is already picking up on Georgia’s interstates as holiday travelers try to beat the rush.
In a statement, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said state troopers and commercial vehicle enforcement officers will be out in full force starting at 6 p.m. Friday through Monday night. They're watching for speeding, DUIs, distracted drivers, and seatbelt violations.
Crystal McKenzie and her family were among those already on the move. They recently moved to North Carolina and are headed to Florida for the holiday, stopping in Georgia to fuel up and regroup.
“It’s actually her birthday Monday,” McKenzie said, referencing her daughter.
McKenzie said they’re hoping to avoid peak travel hours.
