WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — Donna Miller thought she had found the perfect way to commemorate her son Reagan's first birthday.
In October 2022, she paid nearly $200 to Destiny Magoon's online business for a custom stuffed bear that would contain some of Miller's breast milk. She said she also planned for the bear to have a rainbow up the side, to symbolize Reagan as her "rainbow baby", or a baby born after a previous loss.
"I paid close to $200, ordered it. It's about a 10-12 week turnaround. Great, I waited. It was supposed to be here before his birthday, for his first birthday," Miller said.
Magoon's business promised to transform customers' most precious materials—ashes from loved ones, locks of hair, and breast milk—into jewelry, stuffed animals, and other memorial keepsakes.
