CMPD officers shoot, hit suspect who they say fired shots toward them

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – We’re learning more about the suspect in an early Thursday morning shootout with CMPD. It happened near Penborough Road in south Charlotte around two Thursday morning.

Investigators say 20-year-old Benny Hall fired multiple shots “toward the direction” of officers, who fired back. Hall was hit, and taken to the hospital.

Now, officials tell us Hall’s family tried to have him involuntarily committed earlier in the day, but were turned down by a Mecklenburg County magistrate.

No officers were hurt. Those involved have since been placed on paid leave as the investigation continues, which is standard procedure.
