A New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board employee stayed at the Gentilly Central Yard during Hurricane Katrina, expecting to ride out the storm for a few days.

"I had the feeling that we had dodged a bullet because there was just minimal street flooding. And sometime around mid-morning, it just seemed that all hell broke loose," August said.

Within hours on that Monday morning, August found himself surrounded by floodwaters.

"We were basically trapped," said August.

The employees eventually spotted a boat rescuing neighbors and were told they would be taken to the interstate at Louisa and then to the convention center.

However, when we got to the interstate, there were no buses.
