U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., spoke to local education leaders at Randolph College on Wednesday about the state of education in Virginia in the wake of federal efforts to eliminate the Department of Education, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” President Donald Trump signed in July and the rise of artificial intelligence.

At the event, Warner answered questions from local college presidents, school board members and educational organization representatives.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” cuts funding for programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid. Warner said the act significantly cuts funding for school meal programs, while Medicaid cuts will hurt students with disabilities.
