KULA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui police have arrested three people suspected of burglarizing a family business in Kula.

After a string of recent break-ins, the owners of Kula Hardware and Nursery say they want harsher penalties to prevent crime from getting worse.

The Taylor family has been the proud owners of the only nursery Upcountry and the only hardware store in Kula for the past 24 years. They love serving and helping their community.

But recently, they have become a target for thieves.

Last Friday, three burglars broke into and stole hundreds of dollars’ worth of items.

“They grabbed a big trash can and they put it right here and they just swiped all of it,” said general manager Laci Taylor.

They also caused thousands of dollars in damage.
