Brits jetting off to the tropical paradise of Bali in Indonesia are being urged to keep their paperwork close by, following a major clampdown by local officials. ‌

Tourists sipping drinks on the beach are now subject to "spot checks" from authorities, who will demand to see passports and evidence of legal stay in the country. ‌

This follows Indonesian authorities' efforts to tackle a growing problem of visa overstays and unlawful immigration , with a significant surge recorded at the start of 2025. ‌

Many of these cases are believed to involve digital nomads, who are exploiting Bali's relaxed atmosphere and stunning coastline whilst operating from their computers.
