BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Changes are underway at one of the Valley's most iconic sports venues: Sams Memorial Stadium. These renovations are expected to elevate the game-day experience for students, athletes, and families.

As the high school football season kicks off Thursday, ongoing renovations have prevented games from taking place at the stadium. However, Brownsville Independent School District sports officials have shared an estimated completion date for what will soon become a new soccer and football complex.

Following graduation ceremonies, Sams Memorial Stadium began renovations in June of this year. So far, progress has been made on drainage improvements, new concessions and restrooms, extended parking areas, and the installation of brand-new turf.
