SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - 34 out of 36 Oregon sheriffs have signed a letter supporting Marion County’s request for clarification on whether or not providing documents requested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement would violate Oregon’s sanctuary law.
The county’s lawsuit, filed on August 18, stemmed from subpoenas issued by ICE asking for records of four alleged undocumented immigrants who are on parole for crimes including rape, sexual abuse and kidnapping/robbery.
The county collected all of the documents requested in the subpoenas, which would have been made available to anyone who makes a public records request.
However, Oregon’s sanctuary law limits the use of state and local resources for immigration enforcement, which conflicts with the subpoenas issued by ICE.
