BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Jim Tressel’s tenure as Ohio State football coach was memorable.
He won more than 82% of his games, secured a national title in 2002 and led the Buckeyes to BCS National Championship Game appearances twice.
However, the decorated coach left Columbus under unfortunate circumstances.
Tressel resigned in May 2011 amid NCAA violations for a scandal now known as Tattoogate . The case, which centered around players exchanging memorabilia for tattoos, resulted in a harsh punishment for OSU.
The Buckeyes lost scholarships, and they were issued a postseason ban for the 2012 campaign – former coach Urban Meyer’s first at the helm.
Ohio State’s fate could have been different had the scandal happened 20 years later.
The NCAA recently issued Michigan’s punishment a
