Police are appealing for information following the death of a pedestrian who was found injured on the M8 and died at the scene.

The tragic incident took place between junction five and six on the motorway, near West Lothian, at around 12.40pm on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to a report of a man injured on the motorway near Newhouse, North Lanarkshire. It has since been confirmed he was struck by a white Volvo HGV.

The 52-year-old pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed to allow investigations to be carried out. It was reopened around 6pm on Thursday, 28 August.
