SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The South Burlington school district wants you to send your kids to school on the bus.
It’s a very different message than the one they put out last year.
This time last year, I told you how a severe bus driver shortage was leading to route cancellations in South Burlington.
Parents had to take over driving duty, and kids were often late to class.
The district’s attempts to sweeten the pot seem to have paid off.
It’s the middle of August, but John Elowson’s school bus is lit up like a Christmas tree.
“It’s a matter of making it comfortable for the students,” said Elowson.
Elowson started driving for the South Burlington School District last year.
He wanted to help resuscitate their workforce, down from 20 bus drivers, to just 12.
