SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) - One Vermont business says items now cost more due to tariffs, and they are letting their customers know about it by printing it on their receipts.

The owner of Village Wine and Coffee in Shelburne, Kevin Clayton, says he is facing tariffs to import wine and coffee from overseas, and it’s impacting prices from 15% to 25%.

In response, there’s a new 10% “Trump Tariff” added onto bills.

Clayton claims it’s not political; they just want to let customers know why costs are higher.

“When you go to buy something at the store, no one knows who you are. No one knows what party you are. But the owner of the store had to pay the tax, and they can’t afford to eat it! They have to pass it on,” Clayton said.
