New data released by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) shows that in the year since the announcement that the Winter Fuel Payment would be restricted to those receiving Pension Credit and other certain income-related benefits on July 29, 2024, claims have jumped 44 per cent and risen by 98,200 extra applications to 320,300. ‌

By the end of July this year, some 181,100 Pension Credit claims for the means-tested benefit - worth over £4,300 this year - were cleared and awarded. This is an increase of 57,200 extra claims awarded for the same period last year. ‌

Pension Credit is now supporting 1.4 million older people on a low income across the UK, including 127,584 living in Scotland. ‌
