HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton police are asking for the public’s help after a man was found dead early Friday following an attempted robbery and shooting.

Around 12:50 a.m., authorities received a call about an attempted robbery in the 400 block of Marion Road. Police said a delivery driver had returned to his vehicle when an armed suspect approached him. The victim pulled out his own firearm, and the two exchanged gunfire. The driver was not injured and is cooperating with detectives.

Officers began a K-9 search for the suspect, and during that search were called to a suspicious vehicle in the 1st block of Sargeant Street. There, they found a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
