MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A state senator and state representative from Memphis requested that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) audit crime reporting done by the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

State Senator Brent Taylor and State Representative John Gillespie sent that letter to TBI Director David Rausch on August 15.
"It has been brought to our attention there may be instances of crime report classifications being intentionally downgraded—for example, felony offenses, such as burglaries, being reclassified as misdemeanors like vandalism.
