Albany’s stunning King George Sound will be showcased by one of the world’s biggest and most spectacular lighting installations as part of the city’s bicentenary celebrations next year.

More than 12km of the Sound’s rugged coastline will be lit up over the last three weekends in March.

Renowned Finnish artist Kari Kola is preparing to erect light towers at strategic points along the coast for an event that will push Albany’s natural beauty onto the international stage.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to head south for a string of major events to toast the 200-year anniversary of WA’s first town.

Settled as a military outpost in December 1826, Albany predates Perth by three years. The natural deep-water port served as the capital of the Swan River colony until 1829.
