TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Electric vehicle fires are a relatively new problem and the best way to put them out is still a work in progress.
Tucson Fire recently received new equipment the agency hopes is a step in the right direction.
They got the funds through a Tohono O’odham grant and purchased equipment to put out electric vehicle fires.
After fighting their first fire with the equipment, they said the new additions were worth the investment.
The turtle hose and fire blanket are the newest addition for a very specific purpose.
“We had to come up with new ways to fight it because it was nothing like we’ve ever seen,” Tucson Fire Special Operations Coordinator Captain James Sieminski said. “EV fires are a whole different animal.”
