Nine men have been sentenced in connection with a large-scale drug trafficking operation that transported cocaine from Mexico into Alabama, including a former state trooper.

On May 19, 2025, a federal jury found the following individuals guilty for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine: • Jim Carter, Jr., 58, of Montgomery, Alabama: Convicted on conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. On August 22, 2025, he was sentenced to 327 months in federal prison. • Francisco Lopez, 39, of Texas: Convicted on conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
