Blaine County is marching toward completion of its project to install the long-awaited Colorado Gulch bridge after a grant cancelation led to uncertainty about the project’s funding.
Colorado Gulch Road has been closed since Aug. 15 for the first phase of the project to replace the bridge, which was damaged by high water in 2017.
Blaine County Disaster Services coordinator Chris Corwin said that the closure is in place in order for heavy equipment to dig the bridge foundations, install pylons and pour concrete. That part of the project is expected to last roughly one more week.
Colorado Gulch Road will remain closed for a few weeks after the first phase of construction is complete so that the concrete can cure. Then a second phase of construction will begin to install the bridge itself.
