LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Doppsee, the endangered female black rhino at Potter Park Zoo, has died. The zoo shared the announcement on social media, saying they are devastated.

The announcement follows weeks of health complications in which the zoo says Doppsee’s health continued to change. Ultimately, the zoo explained that the difficult decision was made to euthanize Doppsee on Thursday after veterinary and animal care teams agreed that further treatment was not feasible or possible.

The zoo says she passed away surrounded by those who love and care for her.

The zoo first announced Doppsee was having health complications back on July 29th. The zoo at the time said it was a medical emergency. The complication was later identified as “plant-based.”
