HENRY Co., Illinois (KWQC) - A sentencing hearing is scheduled for an Illinois man convicted in the death of Knox County Deputy Nicholas Weist in Henry County.

The sentencing hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. Friday.

A Henry County jury convicted Daylon Richardson, 26, of two counts of first-degree murder in February 2024.

The jury also found that he knew Weist was a law enforcement officer.

He faces a natural life sentence.

According to police:

The Galesburg Police Department responded around 8 a.m. April 29, 2022, to a report of a suspect with a gun at the Circle K Gas Station on Main Street in Galesburg.

Two officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect, later identified as Richardson, continued to drive north on US Highway 150.
