A new report from Manitoba’s Auditor General revealed the Municipality of WestLake-Gladstone lost more than $472,000 in a cybercrime incident spanning the 2019 holiday season, and failed to investigate how the breach occurred.

Between Dec. 19, 2019, and Jan. 5, 2020, an unknown actor accessed the municipality’s account at Stride Credit Union and made 48 withdrawals, each just under $10,000, totalling $472,377.15. The transactions were carried out through the Credit Union’s online banking system.
