Ottawa police detectives are investigating after a woman in her 70s was stabbed Wednesday afternoon at a west-end grocery store known for its large kosher selection.
The woman was shopping at the Loblaws in College Square on Baseline Road when she was approached by a man and stabbed in the torso. She had entered the store with a friend around 1:35 p.m., police said.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, treated, and later released. Police said the victim and suspect did not know each other.
Joseph (Joe) Rooke, 71, of Cornwall, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. Investigators said more charges could follow. He surrendered without incident after police were called.
