Jars of broccoli are being recalled in England after the bacteria that causes botulism was found in some products.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is warning people not to eat jarred broccoli sold by La Sovrana with one particular batch code over fears it could make them seriously ill.

It comes after four deaths linked to botulism were reported in Italy in recent weeks. Two of the victims had eaten broccoli and sausage sandwiches from a food vendor in Calabria, according to local media.

The FSA has now issued a product recall on Vittoria Friarielli alla Napoletana, which is broccoli bottled in oil, covering the whole of England. The affected 1kg jars have the batch code 280325 and a best before date of March 23, 2028.
