It may be the worst feeling a parent can have—not knowing where your children are. That frightening prospect is the core premise of the film Weapons .

The story begins in the aftermath of 17 elementary school children who mysteriously walked out of their homes, all at 2:17 AM, and disappeared into the night.

It’s notable that all of the missing children happen to be from the same classroom under teacher Justine Gandy (Julia Garner), and a reasonably upset cohort of parents are demanding answers from her.

While this nightmare scenario might be a (ideally) unique and extreme case, there are any number of more mundane issues that cause parents worry and maybe even anxiety.
