A wide search continues Friday in the Renfrew area following a “serious assault” on a woman Thursday. Article content

Provincial police said in a release the case began when a woman went to a local hospital, saying that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Raglan Street North. Article content Article content

The victim said she knew the suspect and that he had a handgun.

The man was later spotted on foot in the area.

Officers attempted to arrest him, but he fled onto the Algonquin Trail.

While police believed there was no threat to the public, a shelter in place advisory was issued just after 9 p.m. “out of an abundance of caution.”
