It’s fascinating to see embattled, decades-long foreign affairs expert John Bolton lambast President Donald Trump and his decisions in trying to broker a peace agreement in the Russia-Ukraine war ( “Bolton blasts Trump after FBI raid, says Ukraine policy lacks coherence, strategy,” Aug. 26).

Bolton excoriates Trump for his incoherent Ukraine policy. But I don’t recall Bolton blasting President Barack Obama and his policies in 2014 when Obama allowed Russia to annex Crimea. Nor do I remember Bolton slamming President Joe Biden in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine, starting this conflagration.

What I do remember is during Trump’s first term, Vladimir Putin and Russia made no incursions into Ukraine. Trump and his policies were able to keep Putin in check. Trump is now in the unenviable po
