BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Two Boone County sheriff’s deputies are recovering after being shot multiple times during a standoff Thursday night.

According to ABC affiliate WCPO 9 News, one deputy was airlifted and the other taken by ambulance to UC Medical Center. Officials say both are now stable and their outlook is positive.

Deputies had responded to an apartment when a man opened fire, hitting both deputies. The suspect then barricaded himself inside. SWAT teams deployed gas canisters and used a drone to enter the home, where they found the man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Neighbor video captured deputies breaching the door moments before the gunfire erupted. Nearby homes were evacuated during the incident.
