Physician recruitment is ramping up in the Prairie Mountain Health region. In partnership with the province, Shared Health, and community organizations, PMH is working to expand access to doctors in rural Manitoba.

A major tool in that effort is the provincial Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates, which helps foreign-trained physicians become licensed family doctors in the province.

Over the past year, PMH sponsored eight doctors through the program. They are now practicing in Swan River, Neepawa, Souris, Roblin, and Virden—each committing to four years of service in their communities.

Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara says bringing in and keeping staff remains a top priority, and welcomed the new doctors to Manitoba’s health-care workforce.
