SOMERSET, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Somerset firefighters are reminding drivers about the dangers of tossing cigarettes out of car windows after a grass fire broke out along East Highway 80 on Thursday.

Crews say the blaze was sparked by a cigarette thrown from a vehicle. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before it spread to nearby property.

Officials are urging the public to think twice before discarding cigarette butts, noting that even a small ember can ignite dry grass or brush and lead to potentially dangerous fires.
