Football legend John Barnes has spoken candidly about his tax troubles, declaring: "I'm paying what I owe."

The former Liverpool and Watford winger, who became the first £10,000-a-week player, revealed he has been settling debts with HMRC for the past eight years following substantial losses from badly advised investments.

He addressed the All Things Business podcast to set the record straight on what he claims are misleading reports about his finances.

Barnes disclosed that since 2017, he has repaid approximately £2.2million and continues to pay £10,000 monthly under agreements reached with the tax authority.
