A 43-year-old Maryland man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car in Mount Airy, authorities announced.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, at around 6:15 p.m., deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of West Ridgeville Boulevard and the Mount Airy Village Shopping Center for a reported fatal crash, officials said.

According to investigators, a Honda motorcycle traveling westbound struck a Volkswagen Jetta that was heading eastbound and attempting to make a left turn after pulling into the roadway.

The motorcyclist, identified as Nicholas Main, 43, of Mount Airy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jetta remained at the crash site and cooperated with deputies. Multiple witnesses also remained on scene, police said.

"We are all heartbroken about this news. Been knowing Nick and his family the entire time we've lived here some 37 years," a friend posted on social media. "He and Chris rode ATVs frequently when he was growing up ... He was a legend, just like his Dad. We will miss him for sure."

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information or who witnessed the crash to contact detectives.
