NEWARK - State officials, local leaders and Rutgers faculty on Aug. 21 announced $3 million in state funding to support the Newark Public Safety Collaborative and the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers.

The Newark Public Safety Collaborative was formed in 2018 as part of the Rutgers-Newark School of Criminal Justice Anchor Initiative.

Partnered with the Newark mayor’s office and the Newark Department of Public Safety, the Newark Public Safety Collaborative seeks to empower community organizations to become “co-producers” of public safety and mobilize community resources and expertise to solve Newark’s most pressing crime issues, according to its website.
