A student at Paris High School was detained Friday morning after an assault with a knife, according to a letter the Paris R-2 School District posted to its Facebook page.

The district said a student brought a pocket knife to school and attempted to assault a classmate.

The district said in the letter that the knife did make contact with the victim, but the victim sustained minimal physical injuries.

The offending student was taken into custody, and the victim is safe and with family, according to the Facebook post.

Paris R-2 said it will coordinate follow-up investigations with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
