LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - It’s been quite the day for the Webb County DA office as well as the Webb County’s Sheriff’s office.

The Webb County District Attorney’s Office said Friday, August 29, it had secured an arrest warrant for Bernadette Mays on 31 counts of animal cruelty following an investigation into Freedom Ranch Animal Rescue. Mays’ bond was set at $77,000.

With that arrest warrant in affect, Sheriff Martin Cuellar released his statement.

“We genuinely understand the community’s pain and sadness concerning the Freedom Ranch incident. During the initial visit by the investigators, the dogs were provided with food, water, and shelter, and it was observed that the newly arrived animals were being kept in isolation.
