SMITHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A 17-year-old student at DeKalb County High School was named in a juvenile petition after reportedly threatening “mass violence” against the school, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).
The teen was charged with the felony offense of making a threat of mass violence on school property and was taken into custody at his home on Wednesday evening.
The teen is being housed in a detention center, the DCSO said.
According to the DCSO, there were rumors among students on the school bus on Wednesday about a possible shooting planned for Thursday.
One of the students alerted the principal of the shooting by email, who then contacted the school resource officer.
