DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado State Patrol is giving away steering wheel locks during a one-day event on Saturday, Sept. 6.

CSP said Friday that it is giving away 500 steering wheel locks in total. The event will be held at the Colorado State Patrol Academy at 15055 S. Golden Rd. in Golden, Colorado, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Basic additional security measures, like these steering wheel locks, are quick, easy to use, and effective means to deter and prevent auto theft," the agency said in a release

Drivers interested in receiving a free steering wheel lock must sign up for a time slot online and bring a current Colorado vehicle registration.
