KENNEBUNK, Maine — If you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to the family, this could be the perfect weekend to find one!

The Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk is offering steep discounts on its adoption fees, hoping to help clear the shelter.

Through Sunday, Aug. 31, adoption fees on cats and puppies will be 25 percent off, fees on adolescent and adult dogs will be 50 percent off, and there's a 100 percent discount on rabbits and small animals (excluding chinchillas).

Check the website to find out who is available, because if you want an animal that's currently in foster care, you'll need to make an appointment ahead of time.

Otherwise, AWS will be open for meet and greets from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., then 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
