SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Many are reflecting on Hurricane Katrina’s landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi 20 years ago.

Katrina intensified to a Category 5 storm before weakening to a Category 3 when it made landfall. More than 1,800 people lost their lives.

When disaster strikes, you will hear us discuss Missouri Task Force 1 being deployed to assist with search and rescue operations. The team, comprising nearly 200 members, has been called upon to assist with a variety of rescue and recovery efforts across the country. While the team has state-of-the-art mapping, PS, and communications, and leaves with enough equipment to be self-sufficient for 72 hours, that wasn’t always the case.
