Head coaches generally don’t make a practice of setting specific number goals before seasons begin.

If their teams fall short, it can mean automatic disappointment.

Credit Nashville SC coach B.J. Callaghan, however, for stating way back in January — more than a month before the 2025 season started — that his team needed to score 50 goals in order to return to the MLS playoffs.

It was no small statement, as the traditionally defensive-minded franchise had scored just 38 goals in 2024 — the second-lowest total in the league — and only 39 in 2023.

But barring an epic drought over the final six regular season contests, Nashville (15-8-5) is well on its way to smashing through the 50-goal barrier.
