The University of Notre Dame has been touted as a solution to help Fremantle’s free CAT bus service prowl the streets once again.

The wheels fell off the Freo CAT bus service — a free loop service running from the Fremantle train station to South Beach which was funded in a 60-40 cost-share arrangement between the City of Fremantle and the Public Transport Authority — in October 2023 after the city council decided to discontinue its share of the funding.

The PTA had told the city a new contract for the service would involve a 30 per cent increase in costs.
