FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A dozen schools in need in Fresno County were given bikes and backpacks filled with school supplies on Thursday.
This was made possible by the non-profit Cornerstone Community Cares, an arm of the Cornerstone Church, which provides food, showers, and clothes all year-round.
Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher says the supplies help set the kids up for success. She says for some families, basic school supplies are a low priority compared to trying to make rent or putting food on the table.
"I've seen tears come to grown men's eyes because they say, Yeah, my son is going to get a new bicycle, and that's what I want him to have," says Cornerstone Church Pastor Jim Franklin.
