MOBILE, Ala. ( WALA ) - It’s hard for Misty LaPorte to talk about her daughter Kailin.

Misty got a call Monday with the worst possible news a mother can receive.

“I didn’t think nothing was wrong. Honestly, I just thought maybe she got in trouble and so I honestly picked it up with a little bit of an attitude and he just told me who he was and I knew,” said Misty.

An officer called to tell Misty her 23-year-old daughter died of a fentanyl overdose. Misty said Kailin had been struggling with addiction.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a home on 8th Avenue in Chickasaw to find Kailin dead at the scene.

Investigators said Payton Beason told them she sold the fentanyl to Kailin and Tyler Thompson drove Beason to make the transaction.
