PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Many Arizonans are facing the possibility of a significant increase in health insurance rates, which could impact the cost of medications and other necessary medical services.

The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI) announced on Friday that insurers submitted the preliminary rate increase for the 2026 Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans. The proposed plan increases ACA health insurance rates from 2.5% to a staggering 55.3%.

DIFI officials say several factors, including changes within the federal government, are influencing the cost. Rising healthcare costs, including hospital stays, doctor visits and prescription drugs, are drivers of rate changes.
