SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A driver is facing charges after a crash involving a police officer early Friday morning in a Scottsdale parking lot.

The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. near Thomas and Hayden roads. Initial reports were that a large, military-style SUV drove into the rear of a parked Scottsdale Police patrol vehicle while an officer was in the front seat investigating a possible stolen car report.

The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Scottsdale PD said. The driver who crashed into the patrol vehicle was taken to the hospital. His condition was not provided.

Scottsdale Police say the crash was intentional and that the man will be arrested for aggravated assault on an officer once released from the hospital.

This crash remains an active investigation
