FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man convicted of domestic battery after breaking into the home of his ex-girlfriend and beating her was sentenced Friday.

A judge in Allen Superior Court sentenced Jeffery Harris to six years in prison. He was given credit for more than a year of jail time already served.

In January 2022, the New Haven man was accused of breaking down the door of his ex-girlfriend's Fort Wayne home. He then fired multiple shots “into the residence and at its occupants,” but no one was hurt from the gunfire, police said at the time of the initial investigation.

Harris then battered the woman, who was reportedly found by police lying in the road with serious injuries.
