ORONO, Maine (WABI) - The rain couldn’t wash out the buzzing activity in Orono Friday.

The Class of 2029 is officially on campus at the University of Maine, and what better way to welcome the freshest set of Black Bears than a hearty Maine hello?

“1,500 about students and their families are here today to start their journey at the University of Maine, it’s a huge exciting day,” says Andrea Bowen, Director of Resident Life at UMaine.

Volunteers from UMaine lent a helping hand, with upperclassmen greeting their new peers and assisting families in moving boxes.

Giving their time and energy to help move-in day has been an annual task for the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi for the last two years, something members Bella Brown and Sophie Knox will continue.
