A 39-year-old motorcyclist from Dover died the morning of Aug. 29 after crashing near Greenwood, Delaware State Police said.

Troopers were called to Route 16, west of Webb Farm Road, just before 7:15 a.m. for reports of the crash. There, they found the man dead.

He will be identified once family is notified.

Police determined the man was speeding west on Route 16 when he entered the opposite lane to pass two cars ahead of him. Safe passing is allowed on the road. READ: Delaware restaurants at Christiana Mall, in Rehoboth & Laurel are now permanently closed

As the man re-entered his lane, he lost control of his bike, police said. It began to skin and left the road before hitting a utility pole. The man was ejected.

Troopers closed the road for about five hours as they investigated.
